Vicodin description

Vicodin is a highly effective medication. Vicodin is used in medicine as narcotic anaesthetizing and antitussive drug. This effect is provided by hydrocodone and paracetamol containing in the drug.

Hydrocodone is a narcotic analgesic and antitussive remedy; it is semisynthetic opiate, derived from codeine and thebaine. Paracetamol increases an analgesic effect of hydrocodone; however in this connection the maximum daily dose is reduced to avoid an accumulation of paracetamol in toxic concentration.

In a combination, these two drugs provide an excellent effect and an individual gets rid of the pain quickly. Few anesthetics can provide such a good effect, but Vicodin formula relieves the pain very efficiently.

Vicodin action

Generally, the mode of Vicodin action is not studied very well, as all drug investigations have not revealed an exact drug mechanism. However, by drug compound, it is evident that the main anaesthetizing efficacy of Vicodin is provided by opiates, substances having sedative action, which suppresses the central nervous system and successfully reduces the pain.

An antitussive effect added to the analgesic effect make Vicodin more efficient and popular drug.

Drug application

Anesthetics are not recommended for self-treatment, before drug use, first consult the doctor. The doctor will establish a diagnosis and define the reason of the pain. After your organism examination he will clarify if application of Vicodin is good for you and he will indicate the course and doses.

Vicodin is taken orally. Each dose is to be taken with a full glass of water. A standard (therapeutic) dose of Vicodin is 5-10mg. It is equal to 60mg of morphine. In case if Vicodin upsets stomach, take the drug with milk or with a meal.

Drug Contraindications

Before Vicodin use, you are recommended to discuss with the doctor all contraindications to Vicodin application. It will allow to avoid any side-effects and any harm to your health.

Inform the doctor about such diseases as: alcohol or drug addiction, kidneys or liver diseases, asthma, delay in urination, prostatism, spasms or epilepsy, gallbladder disease, or head injury.

If you have had the above diseases, the doctor will adjust a dose for you.

Vicodin is not recommended for pregnant or breast-feeding women, without consultation with the doctor.

Vicodin may increase an action of other drugs causing drowsiness, including antidepressants, antihistamines and anesthetics, anticonvulsive and muscle relaxants, and alcohol.

Vicodin Side Effects

Side-effects include: allergic reaction, infrequent respiration, spasms, cold skin, weakness or dizziness, yellowish skin, undue fatiguability, constipation, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting or appetite loss, dizziness, hyperhidrosis, and skin itching.

During clinical investigations of Vicodin and drug use, side-effects have been reported as rare and mild. Generally, the drug is tolerated well.
